Question, is it a mod issue that people who go through the portal to the aether when it is on a server have about a 50% chance of just falling immediately through the portal and back down to the overworld and dying of fall damage 20k blocks away from spawn? Or is that just some problem with the server I use?

That is an issue with our portal provider. He's working on getting it fixed

Good to know I didn't mess something up then, any ETA?

None that I know of at the moment. For a more accurate answer you can ask him directly. He's @Kyrptonaught

Nah don't need to disturb anyone, as long as it is something that is known and is being fixed I am happy. I will just keep my eyes peeled for a fix 🙂

    Sounds good. Have fun!

No worries at all, I don’t mind. To answer your question, I’m not sure of the root cause of this issue. With issues like this recreating it consistently in order to debug can be half of the battle(Also I am just lazy and busy with some other irl things). I’ve been trying to just bend the vanilla portal code with some tweaks to work for custom portals, but I think it is just time to completely rewrite it custom. This could also help fix the issues of portals not always linking together. ETA: not sure, but it is on my radar. The lib is still in beta and has some other things going with it too, might have to bump this one up on the list though.(edited)

Thanks for the info I will pass it on to the players, we just have some players who are connecting from other countries so I think it is also somewhat ping related. If I new more about the fabric api and the minecraft modding scheme I would offer to help out but that is a bit out of my forte. I really appreciate you explaining the issue tho 🙂

I think the issue is exacerbated by the fact the portal does spawn sometimes just floating in mid air. This + lag might lead to a bad time

yeah our portal is indeed directly above the void and was legit a full stack of blocks away from land 😅
  12. KyrptonaughtTeam

Yeah, I think a safety net would help

If you use Cold Aercloud they also shouldn't take any fall damage

Also in regards to the convo about what makes things float in the #mod-dev-talk chat, it is a mixture of density and surface area. That is why the big hunks of metal we call boats can float, you spread out the weight over a large area by decreasing the density which increase the surface area in contact with the water. When an object is suspended in water it is pushing down on it and the water in turn pushes back with an equal force.

Yeah but they will be 20k blocks away from spawn

we were talking about what affects this ability and how strongly it is able to act

probably can separate it based on DFN

Replying toDeleted Userdo you think if I just go build a big box of cobble underneath it I could stop people…

Build a room around the portal, with an exit. Maybe the player is “walking” out of the portal
  20. Deleted User

tried that first, built a wall and everything up to 5 blocks away, they fall right through the floor
