why is it that when I try to go through the aether portal from the aether dimension it doesn't bring me back to my overworld portal? I end up popping out like 20,000 blocks away :/

I’ve gotta investigate this one, has been a mystery to me for some time now(edited)

20000 blocks seems like quite a stretch, but I see your point
I remember the nether portal had the same issue, and someone made a mod years ago to properly link them
KyrptonaughtTeam05:27
Yeah I did do some testing with cpa portals linked to the nether and found that cpa portals behaved exactly like nether portals
Ie not linking together properly
I believe it’s an issue with the dimension scale

Then it may be a good idea to dig up that mod and re-implement it as part of cpi 😄

yea it was an exaggeration haha but it does leave me pretty far

I’d like to, but it is technically more of a band aid fix
(And a complicated one when you bring in the potential of multiple portals being used recursively basically)
I’ll take a look at it again in a bit, see what I can conclude

I've got it working better. It's still always going to be an issue though. Especially since the aether's dim coord scale is large(10).(edited)
I lowered the portal search radius in beta 35 to match the nether portal value of 16 blocks. It was previously set to 128 blocks(which the end portal uses for whatever reason??)
Previously after using a aether portal at -139/114, it brought me to the aether at -7/-14 which is a coord scale of almost 20 on the x value. After the fix it instead brought me to -14/11. Almost a perfect 10
