IrisShaders/Iris(WIP) A new shaders mod for Minecraft intended to be compatible with existing ShadersMod/Optifine shaders - IrisShaders/Iris03:41Gist

- S03:45simple as that

- S03:48just figure out what optifine does
- J
- S03:48And wait for fabric to have shader support that doesn't require special cases for half its mod library?
- F
- S03:50only thing i could think of is optifine capes

Replying toArchanumI like sodium
sodium doesn't have shaders and won't support them unless iris really pushes it forward - A03:53Sodium indium iris
- F
- S
Replying toFoundationGames"anything that intends to emulate a cape"
then why doesn't mojang do anything about it?03:54same thing with lunar client - F

Replying toFoundationGames1. optifine has a legal defense: it's an "optional donator benefit" 2. it would be…
response to first one, have optifine show what amount people donated03:55majority if not all would be 10, once - F

Replying toSweepSwapresponse to first one, have optifine show what amount people donated
a good defense is just the content of OF's discord's support channel "I bought the cape and it's not showing in game" "How do I buy a cape"03:56users know they are buying capes03:56no one sees it as a "donator benefit"03:56but technically, it is very much optional - Snods the way I see it, while exteme, is that offering special optifine support for a mod that's unrelated to optifine is effectively betraying fabric's ecosystem03:58If people are asking random mod developers for optifine support, they're asking mod developers to waste their time on something unrelated 🤷♀️03:59When it's pretty clear that the ecosystem is rapidly maturing03:59And that better solutions for many problems have already emerged

- F04:01it's a good video though (as usual with these kinds of videos from him)
- SPeople are out there doing legitimately impressive things in open source mods that don't sell content, aren't a complete hacky mess on the inside, and surpass optifine's performance in its objectives04:02Starlight is a punfully stellar example and so is sodium04:03Take one look at indium and understand why this ecosystem is better than "fix for optifine"
- F04:03because i have something horrifying to show you04:04

Chocohead/OptiFabricOptiFabric venturing out into the 1.16+ world. Contribute to Chocohead/OptiFabric development by creating an account on GitHub.04:04Chocohead now maintains optifabric04:04and they have included dedicated compat for numerous mods within optifabric itself - S04:05That's terrifying
- F04:05so far when it comes to modern and FOSS optifine alternatives04:05all we are missing04:06is MCPatcher resource pack features04:06and for good reason04:06the format is incredibly outdated04:07we've got performance, connected textures, zoom, better grass, dynamic lights, shaders are coming along with Iris, and more04:07but the resource pack features are missing04:07and it's a big thing preventing people from switching

Replying toAzzyypaarasThank you for being so thorough.
CEM, Connected textures, CIT, Dynamic GUI textures, Emissive entity textures, custom armor models, and more - F
- A04:10Custom armor and entity models are probs going to end up being introduced by mojang at this pace
- F
- A04:10It feels like the thing was designed with the intent of showing off first and making it work later
- F

- Fthe hardcodedness is just so development on the actual shader features can get a boost before parsing the dozens of different properties from shader packs04:11and right now04:11making the mod work on 1.17 is a big deal04:11because it's not going to be up to par with optifine before 1.17's release04:12and 1.17 is going to be a lot of work04:12and the route coderbot is taking with it04:12is patching shader source
- A04:12Sincerely I have not really been keeping up with the project much, more of a canvas person myself

Replying toAzzyypaarasI think I've seen this before, is there any way to do iris compat?
at one point i think coderbot was considering making iris work with canvas materialmaps somehow04:21i wouldn't count on it though - SMy understanding of canvas is that it's effectively a system of shaders that can be utilised by added blocks/entities/dimensions etc - even if the list of shaders is currently limited (mostly bloom) - is that accurate?04:25Effectively what the game would have if it supported those kinds of effects, without any implemented by default

- S06:00not much shadows?06:00i just tried iris06:00same thing06:00not much shadows from sildurs06:02looks like chocapic no shadows kinda06:04im guessing the bsl shader thing was cherry picked to look good without much shadows?06:04nah06:04it has nice shadows06:05imma try without sodium06:05l use the normal branch(edited)
- F06:19That is a patreon/developer only private branch
- S

- S07:20Well I hope it’s in a better state soon07:21Because optifine sucks as a mos07:21Mod07:21It’s fine standalone07:21But for anything modded even without shaders it’s pretty bad(edited)07:22And the open source nature of iris makes it possible to fix issues07:23Which would already be significantly less due to the less invasive nature of the code at least I think
- JWrote some code that would address #176. It works perfectly fine but in the worst way.09:19It's a mixin for InGameOverlayRenderer. I have very little knowledge on mixins, so my code is not great.09:19Upon examination of my code, it's obvious why it shouldn't be commited09:19I'll make a request though, in case anyone wants to fix it up09:20In short, it overwrites the method with itself+[my code]09:20injecting wouldnt work for some reason

Still peculiar that they didn't use an English word in the middle of an English sentence, but hey I know what it means so I'm not complaining - K11:54Comes from Latin

Replying toArchanumLots of languages borrow words from other languages.
definitely, Dutch has a lot in-common with French, British English and German, and the same goes for French and German but the other way around16:27Anyhow that's enough about languages in #paradise-lost, better move on to #great-lounge now
