  1. Jack PapelTeam

Working on a huge swet overhaul to allow for the proposed changes
  2. Jack PapelTeam

Long story short, Color will be a property of the swet, rather than having different entities for different types
  3. cr24Team

so we need a white one
  4. Jack PapelTeam

    Yes
  5. cr24Team

are we not tinting it though?
  6. Jack PapelTeam

Oh yeah I suppose we can tint it
  7. cr24Team

i thought thats what you meant
  8. Jack PapelTeam

    Sounds good
  9. AzzyypaarasTeam

Imho, perhaps hte best system would be some sort of combo
  10. Jack PapelTeam

We can always make an exception if one needs to be dramatically different
  11. AzzyypaarasTeam

Where you have a basic white swet that can be recolored
  12. cr24Team

    fair
  13. AzzyypaarasTeam

May not be too useful for us, but anyone making an addon would appreciate us
  14. Jack PapelTeam

We can always make an exception if one needs to be dramatically different
Oh yeah that's what I meant by this(edited)
  15. Jack PapelTeam

Oh one small problem on the people-making-addons front
  16. Haven King

Color for what has to be an enum?
  17. Jack PapelTeam

Color for the swet drops block
  18. AzzyypaarasTeam

    What
  19. Haven King

I mean, it doesn't have to be an enum 🙃
  20. AzzyypaarasTeam

Please do explain exactly what you mean with that, I feel like there is a better approach to this
  21. Jack PapelTeam

I'll look into other options then(edited)
  22. Haven King

A record would probably be suitable.
  23. Jack PapelTeam

    I'll look into records(edited)
  24. AzzyypaarasTeam

Replying toJack PapelI'll look into records

    waaaaaait
  25. Jack PapelTeam

    Blockstates like enums, basically
  26. AzzyypaarasTeam

    bruh
  27. Jack PapelTeam

    Oh I see
  28. AzzyypaarasTeam

    Ah
  29. Jack PapelTeam

    Hm
  30. AzzyypaarasTeam

Basically, instead of doing new SwetDropBlock(pissAndShit) you have EntityDropBlock(pissAndShit, BiFunction<BlockPos, ServerWorld>)
  31. Jack PapelTeam

    I see
  32. AzzyypaarasTeam

Basically, lets not hardcode things where they don't need to be hardcoded
  33. Jack PapelTeam

    I see
  34. Haven King

It should be a BlockEntity storing the entities tag, yes.
  35. Jack PapelTeam

When I'm back at my computer I'll make these changes
  36. Haven King

    What? No it's not.
  37. AzzyypaarasTeam

    What
  38. Haven King

    Oh?
  39. AzzyypaarasTeam

    Block > entity
  40. Haven King

It still needs to be a Block Entity to at least store the swet type.
  41. cr24Team

    what about blockstates
  42. Haven King

    They're really not.
  43. cr24Team

although it couldn't be expanded on
  44. Haven King

    Definitely don't use blockstates.
  45. AzzyypaarasTeam

We can do neither of htem
  46. cr24Team

    THIS
  47. Haven King

No, why would you do that?
  48. Jack PapelTeam

    Replying tocr24what about blockstates

This is what I was going for originally
  49. AzzyypaarasTeam

Replying toHaven KingNo, why would you do that?

You have a very simple, very clean implementation where you just make a new block and feed it a function
  50. Haven King

I don't know why you think a BE is harder to make than a block
  51. Jack PapelTeam

Both solutions sound reasonable to me, so I'll let you guys discuss this a bit more
  52. Haven King

    Yes.
  53. Haven King

If another mod added a new kind of swet, it would need a new block. That's kinda silly when all they want is an entity.
  54. AzzyypaarasTeam

Are we having bloody compat swets now
  55. Haven King

Wasn't that what started this conversation?
  56. AzzyypaarasTeam

Somewhat, but that is kind of a misuse of the argument
  57. Haven King

Even so, having one block entity is certainly cleaner than having a potentially large number of blocks.
  58. AzzyypaarasTeam

Sorry for not being a fan of cramming a shitton of code into one BE
  59. Haven King

It's not even a shitton of code?
  60. cr24Team

wait are you not kidding @Azzyypaaras
  61. AzzyypaarasTeam

    :3
  62. cr24Team

    i literally can't tell if you're joking
  63. AzzyypaarasTeam

Listen, while it is not perhaps a lot of code
  64. Haven King

I mean, nothing needs to be dynamic. We should have a different block for every single mob spawner too /s
  65. AzzyypaarasTeam

    Ah yes, strawmen
  66. Haven King

    That's not a strawman it's the exact same argument(edited)
  67. AzzyypaarasTeam

You are taking the argument and exaggerating it to a nonsensical point while removing the context
  68. Archanum

I think since only one of the available types of swets is gonna be spawned this way, simply for the tree thing, doesn't making it a block make more sense? Even if we have 100 different types of swets, it's still only the golden one going to be using this function, right?
  69. AzzyypaarasTeam

Replying toArchanumI think since only one of the available types of swets is gonna be spawned this way…

Golden ones are the only ones currently planned, however something I have noted already is that such a block could be reused in various scenarios
  70. Crackers0106

    wait what's this about?
  71. Jack PapelTeam

the spawning-from-a-block part isn't the hard part
  72. Jack PapelTeam

I've looked into it, and it seems like the BlockEntity method is the one of choice(edited)
  73. AzzyypaarasTeam

    :iritat:
  74. Jack PapelTeam

the pass-in-a-function method doesn't seem like it'd make it easy to change the block's texture based on the type of swet(edited)
  75. AzzyypaarasTeam

Just make the texture different, if you are using separate blocks then that is already a requirement
  76. Jack PapelTeam

Oh yes I'm tired and not speaking straight. Let me edit my message
  77. AzzyypaarasTeam

    huh?
  78. Jack PapelTeam

    hm yeah
  79. Jack PapelTeam

Replying toAzzyypaarasThat also, as aforementioned, makes it easy to then reuse this for non-swet entities…

Both methods would allow for any entity type(edited)
  80. AzzyypaarasTeam

Yes, but one is more conductive to changing the whole texture rather than just the color :tater:
  81. Jack PapelTeam

    I see
  82. AzzyypaarasTeam

As a matter of fact, the different model thing could be of interest for swets too
  83. Jack PapelTeam

Instead of passing a function, would it not be just as effective as just passing in the entity type? Since that's the only thing that would change
  84. AzzyypaarasTeam

The reason I said function instead of entity type is that a function is more flexible
  85. Jack PapelTeam

    Oh I hadn't considered that
  86. AzzyypaarasTeam

Just throwing entity type at it would, however, also work
  87. Jack PapelTeam

I just checked my github desktop and realize I undid half the work I did today :sadcat:
  88. AzzyypaarasTeam

    oof
  89. Jack PapelTeam

Well now I got the experience to make it again haha
  90. AzzyypaarasTeam

I am off to sleep myself, 'twas a good day today
  91. Jack PapelTeam

    Awesome
  92. AzzyypaarasTeam

    You have a good... uh
