- M@Haven King finally got ARRP working for my automated recipe registry, these are the functions I made within my recipe registry, I only actually register things in this file whenever I need to do that manually.
19:59This is my Block registry which uses the same parameters for registering the Block to create a recipe for it

- M20:09I can just input the same name I use as the localized name, so "oak_log" I can split into an array containing ["oak", log"]; then combine them back into a string after capitalizing each item in the array and then add the word "Seeds" to it.(edited)20:09I don't even have to write the name itself lmao20:10this is the kinda thing that motivates me to code20:11managing to do something that seems difficult to me, and then after understanding why it wasn't working before but is working now, I can start to get creative with how I use it20:12the best way to learn is the fun way to learn(edited)
- H20:14Then your lang file would just be
And your item would do{ "magic_seeds.seeds": "%s Seeds" }@Override public Text getName() { return new TranslatableText("magic_seeds.seeds", this.resource_block.getName()); }20:14So the block names will be automagically translated20:14And you literally just have to translateSeeds - MThis looks really interesting, I did know that Mojang does stuff like this with Death Messages for example, but I didn't know how to do this myself20:16Never even thought about it20:16but there's one thing I don't get20:17where am I actually inputting the name that will be shown in-game instead of
%s? - H

- H20:20Is there a reason you're not in the Fabric discord server?
- M20:22just hadn't gotten a reason to join yet

- MIf I put everything on a separate line like JSONs should be and remove all the empty lines I end up with 566 lines or 564 if you don't count the
{and}at the beginning and end of the file
20:24and that is only going to increase more and more20:26btw @Haven King what does thesin%srefer to? You're not actually telling that getName funtion that%sis what needs to be replaced with something. So why the lettersout of all things. Asking this because I know there's other letters I can do things with but I don't know the logic behind them - H20:27I'm actually not sure to what degree Minecraft verifies types
- M20:28let me guess %i would be an integer?
- H
- M20:30Just know that if this works thanks to these few lines of code you told me, you'll have saved me HUNDREDS of lines in the language file

Replying tomeme_man_not_avait's just that the BlockItem Model for the crop is made to look like seeds
initially this was out of laziness cause I couldn't figure out how register a crop in a way that makes it know what it's seed item is. So I was like "fuck it, I'll just have people craft the crop block itself and I'll make it look like an item in the Inventory"21:10Thinking about it this is actually way more efficient21:11that's 1 less item that needs to be registered for each crop I add - H
- MI'm pretty sure that the seed item and the wheat crop were separate things, at least they used to be iirc21:13damn I thought I did that in a smart way, lol
- H21:14You just weren't the first to think of it π
- M21:14I mean with the amount of modders it's pretty darn impossible to think of some unique way too handle things at this level21:17Anyhow whilst re-organizing my block model folder which had become a mess after various attempts to get something working the way I wanted it to, I accidentally screwed up and made the item model of some of the parenting paths resulting in a couple of Aether crops showing their block model in the Inventory, this is what it looks like: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/759100347691827232/827988705405829130/unknown.png
- M
Replying toHaven KingThat is actually exactly what normal seeds do too π
Also no hold on mine isn't even that, mine is literally just a block - H21:19Can you show your registration code?
- M
- HItems have to be registered independently from blocks. You can't just give somebody a block and call it an item.21:22So somewhere you have to make an item out of it, which can be pretty simple.
- Myeah I mean true but every block also needs an item registered for it. Of course I also have that. But there's none of that AliasedBlockItem Shenanigans connecting a fully separate seed to the crop block21:24I'm happy the way it works atm, but the basic registration function does need to be re-written sooner or later21:25. A problem with the way I'm doing it right now is that if you use REI + RoughlyEnoughResources, it doesn't actually show the item <X> drops from. it writes the crop name below it but it doesn't show an item which it normally does .(edited)21:26PROBABLY because I'm doing it slightly weird21:27I already know a lot more right now but keep in mind that this mod is legitimately the first fabric mod I've ever written .(edited)21:27So whilst I try to make it user-friendly and as clean as possible, it's still very much my own personal playground to toy around with

21:28I'm going to ATTEMPT making basic machinery soon21:29something that has nothing to do with this mod and will become a separate mod when it works21:30Nothing massive like EnderIO, but I do want basic power generators, Electric Furnaces, Alloying Machines, Grinders, etc.21:31mostly to get a better understanding of GUIs, tile entities, containers/inventories and world updates/ticks - K

Replying tokalucky0I tried implementing Book of Lore several times
Could Patchouli help with that? - K
- MPatchouli is basically a library of some sort that let's you create a guide book similar to the Lexica Botania from Botania21:39I mean you can always ditch Patchouli entirely if you ever find a better way to do it21:40the thing that I feel like is going to be difficult is the interaction with the GUI21:42clicking a button is probably going to need to do something so that requires some communication with the server-side21:43that's my weak point: server-side stuff
